Taichung 台中 - Scooter mania November 20
If you ever end up in Taiwan, one of the first things you will notice is the abundance of scooters everywhere you go.
(If you’re wondering why the girl on the scooter looks oddly thin it’s because she is just a cardboard cutout advertisement.)
One can even buy a scooter whilst shopping at the local supermarket.
I came to question the safety of this mode of transport when I eye-witnessed a scooter rider collide with a car.
The outcome was ugly, the rider was skinned pretty badly but the driver quickly went to his aid. They both sat and waited amongst the sea of traffic flowing around them until an ambulance arrived.
In the European district of the city I met Amanda, a Canadian English teacher who offered to show me around town from the back of her scooter.
With the memory of the traffic accident I witnessed earlier still playing in m mind, I hopped on her scooter and we sped off into the night. My legs shook like crazy as we weaved through the busy streets and back alleys until we arrived at our destination: a bustling night market where I found the shot of the dog for sale.
A big thank you goes out to Amanda for keeping me alive, she was a great rider. Thanks also go out to Elaine, Amy, Ryan, Lisa and Jessica for showing me around town that week.

Great to see you posting again.
I love the cardboard cut-out shot … it certainly made me look twice. I think the series tells a really neat story, although I won’t be picking up a scooter at the supermarket anytime soon!
