The Embassy

In January 2007 I met some residents at the Aboriginal Tent Embassy which is located across the road from the Old Parliament House in Canberra, the capital city of Australia.

I began taking an interest into the motivations and reasons behind the residents’ determination to make such a public protest and the dedication they showed in holding their ground despite several attempts to remove the embassy.

In the lead up to the public apology to the Stolen Generation by Prime Minister Kevin Rudd on the February 13, 2008, I obtained permission from the residents to photograph on the grounds of the embassy.

I just wanted to document the residents, visitors and the environment of the embassy for historical and documentary purposes.

A small selection of these photographs can be viewed here.
With the assistance of fellow photographer, Dave Wong, I also made a series of portraits of several residents and visitors which I will post in the future.
